ANCHORAGE SCHOOL DISTRICT

The district will foster a culture of high expectations To achieve high performance, the board believes the district must foster a culture of high expectations for everyone: students, parents, educators, staff and the board. High expectations require adopting an attitude that does not make excuses for a child's academic performance. High expectations also require high performance standards for each employee, including an expectation of collaboration.
MATANUSKA-SUSITNA BOROUGH SCHOOL DISTRICT

Mat-Su Public Schools are organized to put students and families first. Our facilities include 20 elementary schools, five middle schools, six high schools, and four K-12 schools, including a comprehensive home school. Additionally, the district hosts six charter schools, and three alternative education schools which offer a range of specialized programs. The MSBSD has educational opportunities available for adults through the career and technical education programs and preschool for students with special needs.

LOWER KUSKOKWIM SCHOOL DISTRICT

One of Alaska's largest rural districts LKSD services a 22,000 square mile area roughly the size of the state of West Virginia. Approximately 3900 students (K-12) of mostly Yup'ik (Eskimo) heritage are served by the district's 345 teachers and numerous paraprofessionals. One-fifth of the certified teachers are Yup'ik, the greatest percentage of indigenous educators of any district in Alaska.

KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH SCHOOL DISTRICT

The Kodiak Island Borough School District, established in 1948, is a rural, public school district located on the second largest island in the United States, in the Gulf of Alaska. The island has one city, Kodiak, where the majority of the population is concentrated. There are 4 elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school in the City of Kodiak. There are six outlying Alaska Native villages on the island, accessible only by boat or small plane.

YUKON-KOYUKUK SCHOOL DISTRICT

We are delighted to welcome you to the Yukon-Koyukuk School District (YKSD). District boundaries fall within the Yukon-Koyukuk Census area. The YK Census area makes up only 1 percent (approximately 6,150 residents) of the state鈥檚 total population. The District鈥檚 nine village schools are located along the Yukon, Koyukuk and Tanana river systems, a geographic area larger than the state of Washington (encompassing about 65,000 square miles of territory). More than 98% of the district鈥檚 303 river school students are Alaska Native (Athabascan). The district also sponsors a statewide correspondence program called Raven Correspondence School. There are approximately 1,100 full-time students enrolled in Raven during the 2010-2-11 school year. District-wide, YKSD serves 1,403 full-time students.
SITKA SCHOOL DISTRICT

The Sitka School District (SSD) is a K-12 public school district serving about 1,300 students who live in Sitka, Alaska. Sitka is one of the top five largest cities in Alaska with about 9,000 residents. Sitka is located on the western edge of Baranof Island and faces the Gulf of Alaska.

ALASKA GATEWAY SCHOOL DISTRICT

AGSD encompasses 28,000 square miles extending north from the Alaska Range to the Yukon River and Canadian border. Schools are located in the communities of Dot Lake, Eagle, Tanacross, Tetlin, Tok, Mentasta Lake, and Northway. There is also a district-wide correspondence school. All schools are K-12 except Tanacross, which is K-8.

The Chugach School District Office is based in Anchorage, Alaska. Chugach's 214 students are scattered throughout 22,000 square miles of mostly isolated and remote areas of South Central Alaska. With 30 faculty and staff, CSD is the smallest organization to ever win a Baldrige Award. CSD delivers instruction in education from preschool up to age 21 in a comprehensive, standards-based system. Education occurs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Instruction is delivered in the work place, in the community, in the home and in school. Half (50%) of the students in the Chugach School District are minorities (Alaska Natives).
