  Monroe County Public Schools continue to be the single largest employer in Monroe County, employing 343 certificated personnel and 220 support personnel for a total of 563 employees, who serve 4,159 students, are locally governed and operated by the Monroe County Board of Education, consisting of five elected members and an appointed superintendent, with central offices in the new Monroe County Courthouse and the Monroe County Schools Resource Center located in Monroeville.
