  The International School of Louisiana (ISL) was founded in 2000 by a group of parents eager to make a contribution toward improving the quality of public education in Louisiana. The school鈥檚 founders envisioned a public school offering a foreign language-based academic program with a global perspective. By offering a new choice in public education, ISL hopes to generate educational opportunities of the highest caliber for all students in Louisiana. ISL was Louisiana鈥檚 first language immersion charter school and is the only Louisiana school to be named a 鈥淐harter School of the Year鈥� by the Center for Education Reform, the nation鈥檚 leading education advocacy organization. From their first day of school, students are taught core academic subjects in either French or Spanish. At ISL children learn a second language naturally, through everyday conversation and classroom instruction. The mission of the International School of Louisiana is to provide a challenging education emphasizing language immersion, international awareness, the celebration of diversity and community responsibility.
