  The Darlington County School District ranks third in South Carolina in terms of academic achievement, as measured by the South Carolina Department of Education. The Darlington County School District has the second highest graduation rate in South Carolina (93%), well above the state鈥檚 average graduation rate of 74.9%. The Darlington County Institute of Technology ranks 6th among the state鈥檚 39 career centers (up from 14th last year). They earned an 鈥淓xcellent鈥� on their 2012 report card. Of the 22 schools in the district, eleven schools have received the highest rating of 鈥淓xcellent鈥�. The Darlington County School District is also rated 鈥淓xcellent鈥�. Ninety-six percent of DCSD schools are rated 鈥淎verage鈥� or higher on the annual report cards from the South Carolina Department of Education.

  Sumter School District was formed on July 1, 2011 by consolidating Sumter 海角视频 Two and 17. Mr. Randolph D. Bynum, Sr. serves as the district鈥檚 first superintendent. Sumter School District enrolls more than 17,000 students in grades preschool through 12 and employs over 3,000 staff members. The district includes 16 elementary schools, seven middle schools, three high schools, two alternative learning programs, and the Early Head Start program. The International Baccalaureate Diploma and Middle Years programs are available at Sumter High School and Bates Middle School, respectively. All of the district鈥檚 schools are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and by the State Department of Education. A wide range of educational opportunities are offered to students. All elementary children receive advanced training in technology in addition to fundamental instruction in reading, science, social studies, language arts, health and physical education. The academic program at the middle schools is exploratory in which students may schedule a variety of courses. In addition to the required courses, electives are offered in vocational programs, music, home economics, art, band, and more. With the advice of parents, teachers, and counselors, a carefully planned proposal for a high school program is developed to reflect future needs and interests of each eighth grade student. The district鈥檚 three high schools operate on a 4X4 block schedule that gives students the opportunity to earn more credits while in high school. The high school curriculum not only challenges students who go on to college, but also provides job-ready skills to those who enter the work force after graduation through its varied vocational courses and its partnership with the Sumter County Career Center. High school students have the opportunity to take advanced courses in addition to college level courses through Central Carolina Technical College and USC Sumter. Students at all grade levels can also take advantage of a wide range of extracurricular activities that enhance their learning environment.

  The School District of Newberry County is the second largest employer in the County and the sole local education agency serving Newberry County. Our mission is to engage students at all levels in educational experiences that ensure success and life-long learning. In several of our elementary schools, we offer pre-kindergarten and Montessori for children from age three through grade five. Montessori education practice helps children to develop creativity, problem-solving, social, and time-management skills. Our middle schools are working with students to develop individualized programs of study that are implemented in our high schools. Learning opportunities for our middle school students include Gateway to Technology that emphasizes math, science, and technology. In our high schools we strive to provide a comprehensive curriculum to address individual needs of all of our students. This framework design allows for an integrated, multi-dimensional approach to planning that helps students become successful learners for high school and beyond. The curriculum and instruction is provided in five areas of study: Arts and Humanities, Business Management and Information Systems, Engineering, Manufacturing and Industrial Technology, Health Science and Human Services and Public Services. We provide a dual credit program with local colleges and advance placement programs allowing students to gain college credit during high school. The competency-based curriculum at the Newberry County Career Center enables students to acquire skills and knowledge for gaining employment and reflects the employment needs of local businesses and industries. We provide specialized skills, hands-on training, and appropriated workplace ethics.
